Realizing the impact that a balanced diet has on our health, we are increasingly interested in the nutrition of our pets and how it decisively affects their well-being. According to the literature, nutrition has the primary role in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, while it contributes decisively to the management of most diseases.
Unfortunately, common industrialized animal feeds are often highly processed residues resulting from human food industries, and the result is a pre-packaged product in the form of dry food or canned food, which contains preservatives, colorings, animal or vegetable materials that have little or no nutritional value.
It is known that freshly cooked food has a low microbial load, is more easily absorbed, acting beneficially on our dog's health, while offering a multitude of nutrients per meal. This is one of the reasons that when we feed meals consisting of unprocessed - fresh raw materials, we notice that our dog's feces are well-formed and smaller in volume. The variety and nutritional value of fresh food offers all the necessary micro and macro nutrients that their body needs and will please even the most selective little ones who will surely find something that satisfies their taste requirements.
Only in the right amount and proportion can proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and trace elements compose a balanced and complete diet. The exact amount of the above nutrients that our pet needs per meal depends on its age, size, weight, as well as its activity level and health status.
Recent research supporting the benefits of cooked food points out that it is common to observe serious nutritional deficiencies in dogs when they are fed homemade recipes selected from websites, pet care books, and even veterinary manuals. This is why it is important that these recipes are complete and the result of careful planning, meticulous measurements, and, if necessary, evaluated by a veterinary nutritionist.
